The End is Near!

Well it is that last week ever at Hofstra University for me. Never thought it would come so fast. I have learned so much as a Public Relations major and really hope to take everything that I have learned form my internship and classes in my future jobs. I really believe I ended on a good note with my PR 107 class and at my internship. In my PR 107 class my group did an amazing job at doing PR for our client Operation Homefront. We did everything possible to make things easier for Alison and was very successful. We had a Fundraiser event at Miller's Al House last Monday and raised over $500. We could not of been any more excited and pleased with that amount. I really learned a lot about the importance of getting the information needed out to everyone through updating the website. It really got me to feel more confident in how to add things to a certain site and make me more aware of the impact it can make not only just doing press releases but also using my skills through the internet. Then with my internship it was so sad to leave. I enjoyed every minute of it and really hope to be back with a full time job soon. Columbia records really helped me become more organized and professional in my work ethic. I really got to experience what the music industry is all about in the minds of a PR professional. Also I got to meet such amazing people who I will stay in contact with forever! As I go into the real world I really will be thanking Hofstra and my professors for all their help and support! I wish everyone good luck! Class of 2011 we rock!!!

JOB=Just Obey Boss

So today it has hit me when I looked at the calendar and realized that I graduating in 2 months.... 2 months can I say that again lol...All I been thinking about is that there is no more fun college its now time for the real world and getting a JOB. When I googled JOB as an abbreviation I got a lot of different answers but I thought that Just Obey Boss was the best one. I mean it makes sense that it would stand for that. But what I am getting at is that the fact that I have to start looking for a JOB. But there is one thing that I learned when I went to my internship the other day. I was helping another music label out putting press kits together and just started a conversation with an employee there asking how she got her JOB. And honestly she said that it’s all about being at the right place at the right time and knowing the right people. And after hearing that it made so much sense. And then she got her JOB and she now Just Obeys her Boss and does what she loves at the same time. My question to you is...What is your definition of a JOB? And do you agree with the PR employee that I talked to about how she got her JOB?

Does a busy day=a good day at work?

So on Wednesday March 9 I had my first feeling of knowing what it is like to stay late at work and be really busy. The first thing you think of when you are busy is and know you have to stay late is like god why do i have to stay here. But for me at my internship i really felt happy knowing that when i am busy i do like it and it was a great day. As a PR majors everyone says you will have no  life and be constantly working all the time and this was the day that made me realize it. What made me so busy was putting together this press kit and mailing it out to over 200 people. My goal for myself was to get this done before i left but as the time went on I realized i am going to have to stay longer. My supervisor calls me as i was doing my work and asked if i was leaving and i told her that i am going to stay until i am finish. I for one wanted to feel like a accomplished something and also know that i made a big difference for my supervisor and the other employees there. It was a lot to leave late but i knew there would be a good outcome to it. So to answer my title i do believe that a busy day does equal a good day at work. What do you think?

Knowing at that moment you are on the right path

So i been interning for about three weeks now and everything seems to be the same old thing but i know i making a huge difference in the company and the artists even if i am just sorting spread sheets sometimes. But i had my moment last night that made me realize how lucky i really am. Being an intern i got a free ticket to go see one of our artist Adele live on Letterman. It was an intimated concert that she just did with her fans and important people. I actually got to meet her for a second when she dropped by at the label. But i really didn't think she would remember me. But as i am into the concert and she is singing she looks up at me and the other intern and does a double take and smiles and waves to me. At the moment i realized she knew even as a intern that i was one of the people trying to promote her and make her big and successful. It was the most amazing feeling ever and i knew that what i am doing which is PR is my calling and what i need to keep working for.

My first full week....and learning from my mistakes

Hey so this week i had my first full week at Columbia Records. ti definitely was a experience for me. What I been seeing is that i really learn so much each time i go into intern. I may have a lot of questions but there is aways something new that I have to do. On Monday I did the usually cutting out the press clips and then did some errands for my supervisor. I just really still can not believe that i am there working for them. Then on Wednesday i just figure it will be the same old thing in the morning but it was not. I got to my desk and i had all of these notes in front of me. It was notes from the other intern Karen telling me that our supervisor was not going to be there in the morning and i had to take over and mad the phones. No going to lie i was so scared knowing i had to be the assistance for an hour. The phones never rang but its definitely something i need to practice with. But it was amazing to sit there at her desk and feel like i was really working lol. Then on Friday me and Karen were given a lot of projects to work on. I was really learning a lot of sorting out there contact list and taking control of there media. Also this week was the preparing for the Grammy's that are on tonight. Everyone in my department is going to LA for the show and working there. That is my dream come true and hope i can do that too. It was mind blowing knowing they were going. And On Monday i am so nervous because i now have to take over my supervisor for a whole day. She will not be in on Monday. I hope i do everything right for my boss. You will find out more next week. :)

The beginning of being an Intern

Hi everyone so this is my first blog that i have ever done. I am very excited to be sharing with you my experience and thoughts on Public relations. Well about four days ago i had my first day at my internship with Columbia Records. Just typing that out really made me smile knowing that i am getting to have such an opportunity to intern at my dream job. I was so nervous when i got there i did not know what to expect at all. When I got there I met with my supervisor who is so nice and she just showed me where i will working and introduced me to all the people that work there. One thing that i learned about the music industry was just how laid back everyone is. I felt so dressed up on my first day. Everyone was wearing jeans or looked so casual while i was wearing black pants lol. But it was nice to see that and made me feel even less nervous. One thing that i will never forget is doing my first assignment. I went to get food for a artist that was performing at a local place and she had a list of things she wanted at the show. I know it may not sound so exciting to be getting food but honestly i felt special doing it and felt like i was helping an artist out. To me its the little things that make a difference. I don't expect myself to be doing a lot right away as i am a intern and i have to start somewhere. But anyways i am looking forward to this semester and what Columbia Records has to offer me. More blogs to come with my experiences at my internship.
